Fish dishes carefully prepared by the owner in a refreshing space surrounded by trees and a shrine

Maizuru Chaya sits quietly beside the torii gate of Ichinomiya Shrine. You can enjoy soothing views of the shrine’s grounds from the inside of the restaurant. And the inside of the restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere to match. You will be treated to seasonal scenery like summer’s green maples, fall foliage, and winter snow. Although this location is rich in nature, the specialty of this restaurant is fish dishes. Takuya Ichikawa, the owner of the restaurant, says, “I'm most happy when I'm working with fish.” He is a genuine fish lover who goes to the fish shop every morning to stock up and sometimes even catches his own fish. There is a wide variety of menus items, such as seafood caught in local Maizuru fishing port, and a set meal that includes Inaniwa udon, which is rare in this area. The menu is designed so that it is filling but still natural and gentle on your stomach.

I was born and raised in Maizuru. After practicing at a local restaurant, I decided to open Maizuru Chaya in 2006, selecting this area, because I was attracted by the nature-rich location next to the shrine. I've loved fishing since I was a kid and I still go fishing almost every day. Displaying information in the restaurant about where the best fishing grounds are makes me happy, and I hope that customers who like fishing will stop in and find it useful. In addition to fish we have local specialties like Manganji peppers, which originated in Maizuru, and rice grown by farmers in the Yura River basin, I would like customers to enjoy "locally grown and locally sourced" dishes.
