Yoshinoya

A restaurant with a long history in front of the Kasamatsu Park cable car, where Tango products and seasonal specialties are on offer

Yoshinoya serves fresh fish purchased daily from the best fish-harbors of the Tango Peninsula, Taiza, and Ine, which have rich fishing grounds thanks to the calm inland sea. The most popular item on the menu is the decadent squid rice bowl, which makes a strong impression due to its presentation. The rice bowl has a reputation of being quite large as it uses one and a half cups of squid. Furthermore, the squid used for the meal is seasonal, so the types of squid you will get to try varies by season. The "Amanohashidate littleneck clam" used in the "clam rice bowl" is characterized by the fact that Amanohashidate's inland sea is rich with high-quality water and mountain run-off so the clams are nutrient rich and flavorful. And because these clams are raised in hanging baskets, there is no grittiness when eating them. In addition, you can eat some of Tango’s little known gems throughout the seasons such as rock oysters in summer and yellowtail shabu-nabe pot in winter. It has been around 85 years since we opened the restaurant here. It is a restaurant that has a long tradition of supporting Amanohashidate’s tourism industry.

from the chef:

Our restaurant was actually originally established as a souvenir shop in 1929, when there was no cable car going up to Kasamatsu Park (overlooking Amanohashidate). I am the third generation. We started serving meals with catered lunches and now we are operating as a restaurant and souvenir shop that focuses on fresh fish. At Yoshinoya, you’ll experience the seasonal taste of the Tango region while viewing Amanohashidate from the restaurant’s 2nd floor. And be sure to check out the souvenir shop below. The “Upside-down Dolls” (looking between their legs), which are made by mothers and wives in the area, are popular with visitors because they are handmade and have a retro look.
